Transportation

Medical Transportation Services at ASD operates on an as-needed basis, outside the normal business operating hours to fully meet the specialized health needs of its residents who are on Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) and may have co-morbidity factors. ASD routinely offers Medical Transportation Services as early as 7 a.m. or earlier, as needed for primary care appointments, or in the late afternoon for clinic visits or patient “walk-ins.” Because of the special-needs requirements (health and psychosocial) of ASD residents, which sometimes occur outside the scope of normal business hours, ASD’s Medical Transportation Services offers a unique niche of service that complements rather than duplicates existing transportation service providers. ASD uses two primary vehicles to transport residents, and one is handicapped-accessible for ASD residents who use wheelchairs.

Regularly scheduled trips (routine doctor’s visits, counseling appointments, etc.) are provided during normal agency operating hours and are scheduled through sign-up sheets at all four of ASD facilities. Because ASD has two vehicles primarily used to transport residents and one full-time driver, Medical Transportation Service is provided exclusively to residents of ASD. ASD’s Special Care Facility License from the Texas Department of State Health Services assures that ASD meets a broad spectrum of possible resident needs – including transportation.
